Barrett, H. (2006).

In this article, Helen Barrett focuses on the use of digital storytelling as a tool for deep learning and provides a framework for researching and evaluating its use. She also discusses the role of DS and describes an emerging theory of storytelling as learning and reflection in teacher education.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Digital Storytelling on Student Reflection
http://www.ascilite.org.au/conferences/singapore07/procs/jenkins.pdf

Jenkins, M. & Lonsdale, J. (2007).

The researchers report the use of digital storytelling to promote students’ reflection at the University of Gloucester, UK. The staff and students involved in the study have found that this is a positive approach to encourage reflection and creative thinking; however, the personal reflective nature of digital storytelling makes it difficult to perceive if progression and reflection are equally captured. The paper presents the assessment of this with the use of different models.

Klaebe, H. & Foth, M. (2006).
Proceedings 3rd International Conference of the Community Informatics Research Network (CIRN), Prato, Italy.

The paper outlines a research design for a public history research project that is taking place in an inner-city master-planned community in Brisbane, Australia.

In the study, DS is used to engage members (by sharing their personal stories) of an inner city community in order to foster a sense of social connectedness. The goal is to encourage digital creativity and media literacy with a view to help people find a voice and participate in the knowledge economy. The researchers believe that this will assist in promoting and maintaining good health and well-being. It is an ongoing study and the results have not been published.

A Pediatric Digital Storytelling System for Third Year Medical Students: The Virtual Pediatric Patients

D'Alessandro, D., Lewis, T., & D'Allessandro, P. (2004).

The researchers created eight digital stories which were aimed at medical students doing their core pediatrics rotation. The stories all had a similar format: a case presentation, problem-based approach, and then discussion of disease process. The stories were 20-30 min long.

Students then used the cases and were asked to fill out an online survey about how helpful they found the cases. Most students felt the cases were helpful, at an appropriate level, and something they would remember in the future. They also felt it would help them deal with similar cases.

Mello, R (2001).
International Journal of Education and the Arts. Volume 2, No. 1.

This article is about a research study that was done over a 1 year period on 4th graders. The conclusion demonstrates the impact of storytelling on child's self-concept. It also discusses how storytelling helps children process their social experiences in school.
